Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) - A new way to feel safe online using RCU Online

The security of your information and accounts is very important to us. That's why we now have a login process that allows you to select an image and create your own phrase. That way you'll know that you are on the authentic RCU Online website.

What is Multi-Factor Authentication?

MFA is a process for increased security when accessing accounts online, called Multi-Factor Authentication. In simple terms, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) offers additional protection by requiring Members to provide a different combination of information for online access to accounts.

UserName
Instead of logging in with your account number and password, RCU will now ask you for a User Name. More about UserName.

eStamp Image and Phrase
Once you enroll, your image and phrase will automatically appear when you login. If your image and phrase do not appear correctly, then you are not on RCU's secure online banking site.

The enrollment process is easy and will only take a minute or two. After enrollment when you login your image and phrase will be displayed so you'll know immediately that it's safe to enter your password.

MFA Here's how it works:
Here is a sample of what you will see once the new enrollment begins.

  1. UserName Instead of logging in with your account number and password, RCU will now ask you for a User Name. If this is your first time on this new system you will need to create a new User Name. Read more.
  2. eStamp: Next you choose your personal eStamp image.
  3. Then you will choose your personal phrase. Read more.

From now on you will use your user name to start the log in process. Only after you verify that your estamp is correct will you be asked for your password.

Challenge Questions

Affter your user name is set up and in use, we will ask you a simple set of "challenge questions". Why? When you are using RCU Online we'll know it's you. If we detect any uncharacteristic or unusual activity involving your account, you may be asked to verify your identity before continuing. Challenge Question Frequently Asked Questions.

Here's how it works

  • Over the next few weeks, you will be prompted to answer “secret” questions that only you should know the answers to and provide at least one phone number where you can be reached when using RCU Online.
  • If any unusual or uncharacteristic behavior is detected you may be asked your “secret” questions in order to verify that it is really you. You may also receive an automated call to your to verify your identity.
  • If no unusual or uncharacteristic behavior is detected you will not be asked for any additional information.
